Herding Cats

So, while I was walking out in public strollerless with all 3 boys this weekend, a random Texan man told me I had my hands full (what's new) & then asked, "Are you herding cats or what?"
No, sir. Look closely. They are boys. No cats here.
I totally didn't get the reference, although I did giggle, nod my head, and say "yeah..." as though I understood. When I asked Josh what it meant, I have to admit it made me feel a bit better when he in turn asked me if 'cats' was short for cattle or something.

Seeing as how the person with the PhD was no help, I had no choice but to turn to a more comprehensive, reliable source: wikipedia. Apparently 'herding cats' is "a saying that refers to a task that is extremely difficult or impossible to do, due to one or more variables being in flux and uncontrollable." Upon further researching this fascinating subject (how do I have time for this anyway?- you may be wondering), I discovered this little dandy of a commercial.

You may also be interested to know that the company advertised in the commercial is EDS, headquartered in - you guessed it - Plano, Texas (less than an hour away from me). And who founded EDS? Tell me you know this one.

Anyway, after watching the video, I realized that yes, I am herding cats. The man was completely correct. I cannot think of a better visual for what I do as a mother of 3 young boys. And I wonder if that guy who mentioned it to me knows Ross Perot.
Meee-ow!
