All Hail Texas

Just in case you haven't heard, we have been living in the Dallas/Forth Worth area for about 3 months now. I am already starting to feel that infamous Texas pride kicking in. Here are some facts you may not know about our great state:
1. Texas is BIG
...Beaumont, TX to El Paso, TX : 742 miles
...Beaumont, TX to Chicago, IL : 770 miles

...El Paso, TX is closer to California than to Dallas, TX

2.Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY (known as the
Constitution of 1845 by the Republic of Texas to enter the Union )
instead of by annexation. This allows the Texas Flag to fly at the same
height as the U.S. Flag, and Texas may divide into 5 states.
3. Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885. There is no period in Dr
Pepper.

4. The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman who was the first
full-time coach at Rice University in Houston.
5. The State Mascot is the Armadillo. An interesting bit of trivia about
the armadillo is they always have four babies. They have one egg, which
splits into four, and they either have four males or four females.

*** Thank you to my good friend Jayne, a native Texan, for sending me these random facts***

For those of you who have not had the great pleasure of a visit, this is what Texas looks like. Trees, rocks, cactus, lots of sunshine and wind. Notice that crocs and a short-sleeved shirt can be worn comfortably in November. What's not to love about that?

This is the view down the street from our house. Observe that you can see downtown Fort Worth in the distance as there are no pesky mountains or hills to impede your view.
Another view of the breathtaking urban sprawl.

God Bless Texas!
