Keller Days

In case you wanted a brief history of our neighborhood, here it is. Before we moved in our neighborhood was in keller. In fact if you send us a Christmas package, Keller USPS will deliver it for you. But last summer, about the same time we moved in, our little nexk of the woods was annexed by Fort Worth. So even though city center is about 20 miles for a bird and over an hour for a car, we are converting to Fort Worthians. But that conversion is not complete, and we are Kelllers.

So when Keller hosts a Christmas parade and party with tax dollars (which we did not have to pay, thank you Fort Worth) we were ready to go. The big draw was making a ginger bread house. McKay and Mattthew were looking forward to this, so we let them decorate it themselves. Here is the final version.

I can assure you if I was able to aid in any way, there would be a whole lot more chocolate and a whole lot less of nasty teddy bears.

The bonus to Keller Days was that there was a parade. We got there just in time to see all the floats go by. They even handed out some candy and toys, thank you Farmers insurance for the bouncy ball that plays music and has flashing lights, McKay loves it (and now I know why your premiums were so high). Matthew first took a relaxed role as a consumer, but then the fanatic in him came out. He stood up and gave a beauty paegant-esque wave. He was very good, and a natural talent (he would have won the Bayside Male Beauty Paegant).

Everybody had a super great time. And to make it even nicer, it was near 70 degrees outside. Thank you Mother Nature.

Like any good party there were some downsides. There were a lot of horses in the parade, and apparently someone on the planning committee dropped the ball on how to deal with horse droppings. Not only was it visually unpleasant, and difficult to maneuver in the streets without sinking into a warm steaming horse pie, but there was so much of it that the country smell began to permeate the extravaganza. So much so that they made a public service announcement that the City of Keller was working as hard as possible to clean up the mess as soon as possible. I just thought it was an added bonus and something that was unique to a Texas Christmas.

First of all, nice plug for Saved By the Bell. Now I'll probably get the song from that episode stuck in head for a few weeks.

Second of all, where are the Boy Scouts? Don't they have those in the land of no winter? Isn't it their job to take care of the horse cleanup? Shameful.
