Thursday

Today was the day of the interviews. But it started with a trip to the bank were i lost $300 US. I was given x amount of money for my trip to Santiago. Recently the exchange between the chilean peso and dolar has been dancing all over the place. The peso was really strong for the first part of the month of january, but this week the dollar got a lot stronger, so much so that the x amount of pesos they gave me was exchanged for $300 dollars less than had it been exchanged a week earlier.

The interviews were very tranquilo, just talking about the type of research that I am doing and planning on doing as well as the research the other person does. It was a very good time to really talk with a lot fo different people in a short amount of time.

I also was scheduled to meet with a man named Vito who is in charge of the Institute of Health Administration (Similar to the MPH program at Cornell, a Raleigh shout out if you will). I was told that he wanted to meet with me, and he was told that I wanted to meet with him. So he asked me, so what can i do for you? I wanted to reply with the same question. Soon i realized what was going on and we had a good conversation.

The last interview was with the department head. At that time he told me that they were not going to make the decision until after vacations, or until March. So i guess we will wait.

That night i made my way to La Florida, to visit Juan de Dios, Paulina, Susana y Carlos. They were a family that was baptized when i was with Saunders (wooo). It was great to see their family doing so well. Carlos is finished with school and working in different businesses and Susana is married and going to finish college this next year. Every day they eat lunch together and all live within a couple of kilometers of each other. It was so great to talk about the crazy things that saunders did, and that i was guilty by association. His elastic ties, short sleeve shirts with gloves and bufanda, and the pajamas that they made for him. It was such a great family and absolutely amazing to see them again.

Gibbs, este pedazo de pi de limon es para ti!
