Snow Day #1

Weather report told us that we were going to get a good winter storm. In New York you get a storm, and the plow and salt trucks start up early in the morning and clear the roads. Buses run, and suprisingly they usually are not too delayed. So we are in the habit of, when we hear of a winter storm advisory, we just ignore it and go on with business as usual. But we're in Texas now, and when there is a winter weather advisory, it actually shuts everything down. I mean everything. There are no plow trucks, no salt, and in Josh's case, no classes (UTA snow day).

So being snowed in, the Price Family is going to have some good outside fun. We bundled up the kiddies and went to have some fun. McKay and Matthew were excited to see some snow and relive their own New York memories.

And like any good kids, the first thing they do is throw snowballs. Unfortunately it was an inch or two of ice, with a dusting of light snow on top. In other words, you either have a powder snow ball which disintegrates the moment it leaves the hand or an ice ball which leaves brother crying from pain.

Matthew was happy at first, but he is a warm bodied kid that prefers the sun and heat. He didn't last long outside.

McKay started off slow, but soon he warmed up (or should i say cooled down) and started having tons of fun in the snow. He even went ice skating in the street.

Spencer was not excited at all to be outside. It was really windy, and each time the cold wind hit his face he would gasp. Only to realize that the air was really cold. After 42 seconds he was done. So was Matthew so we had Matthew baby sit Spencer while the rest of us played outside.

Kelli, the great mom that she is, gave the kids a snowman experience. The only way to get the snow to stick together was to gather it at the end of the driveway. It was more of an iceman, but McKay didn't mind. He was very happy to see Frosty make a cameo in our front yard.

Turns out that frosty needed a kleenex. But we found out that the best use of generic Oreos is as Frosty's eyes. Because they are gross, gross, gross. I have no idea why Josh bought them, worse $2 ever spent.

To end the night, we barbequed. A little ice and snow wouldn't stop our planned meal. Having recently become a member of Costco Co., we have a 20 lb. bag of small sweet peppers. So Josh attempted to wrap them in bacon and grill them. Keeping a low temperature sounded like the right way to do it. Turns out, when bacon gets cooked it sweats grease, which is flammable. So when josh returned his grilled peppers were charred (jonathan would laugh). Turns out, that by wrapping the peppers in bacon, the bacon serves as a protective shield of the pepper (do i hear a moral lesson to be learned?).
The kabobs went a lot better, different colored peppers, mushrooms, pineapples, and chicken wrapped bacon. With wild rice on the side. A great dinner if you ask Kelli, too much meat of you ask Josh.
On a side note, Josh wore the blue tights all day, and word on the street is if tomorrow is another snow day, he may don his blue tights a second day in a row.

Looks like fun! It must be really nice knowing that the snow isn't going to last for three more months.
