Graduation of Dr. Price, Ph.D.

After I first enrolled in school in 1985 and now, 25 years later, I have come to the end of the road. So donning my Cornell Red Robes (of the false priesthood), I participated in graduation.

Saturday night was the Ph.D. commemoration ceremony, held in Barton Hall (which holds many memories of great basketball games). Shon Hiatt made sure that as many LDS PhD's were gathered together (only missing Tim Tran). From left to right: Darrell Sonntag (Ph.D. in buses), Scott Sanders (Ph.D. in how southeast asians move), Mark Slavens (Ph.D. in grass), Shon Hiatt (Ph.D. in soda pop), and me (Ph.D. in awesomeness).

It was really warm during the shin dig, but i don't believe it was warm enough to warrant this type of behavior. The blinding light is coming from the legs, not the sun.

Papa Price and Grammy showed up for the weekend, and the boys just loved having them here. They even stopped running aroudn enough for a picture in the ILR Courtyard.

But seriously, it was a short stop for photos and McKay let the camera know that he really wanted to run around some more.

I look good in the robes, but i still think i should have gone naked. Since the robe was rented, maybe someone before me did, I hope not.

This is my advisor Ron Ehrenberg, who even gave me a hug. He was the main reason I chose to come to Cornell over my other options, and he has been an absolutely amazing advisor. He has given me the means to do research and is genuinely concerned about my happiness. He stuck with me through my failures, long enough to see me succeed. Thank you Ron

Here are some other of the faculty that I have worked with. Left, George Jakubson, he was on my committee when i got my master in economics. His real job is as an EMT, and he moonlights as a professor. (On my right) John Cawley, the leader in research on the economis aspects of obesity. I he was on my dissertation committee and we worked together on a study examining financial incentives for weight loss. This study has gotten some publicity in the wall street journal, yahoo news, abc nightly news, a book chapter, and hopefully soon a peer reviewed journal. (on the right) Matt Freedman, I see him in the hall way when i got to get hot chocolate.

And of course there is my sweet wife, who when she said no then yes over 7 years ago, had no idea that i would drag her to upstate NY with me. She has been so supportive and was a driving force that helped me finish. Thank you so much Kelli and I love you.

Congratulations!! I want to hear the no then yes story, too.

Loved the false priesthood reference, by the way. That's one of Jeremy's favorites Nibleyisms.
