My Grandma Gwen (my dad's mom) passed away last night & I thought I would do a post in memory of her.
I did an interview with her a few years ago. Here is an excerpt:
Me: "What's your favorite memory of your sons?"
Grandma Gwen: "My sons? Oh, dear. Probably one of my most memorable stories was when I put all my kids in my little old car (a Falcon) and drove down to Panguitch. We stayed with my aunt Melba and they broke her lamp. We went up to the lake and let them play in the water for awhile. I took all my seven kids and aunt Melba's two grandkids and we went down to Bryce Canyon and went down that trail that goes back and forth and back and forth. It was like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. They tried to kill me Then, on the way home, the car stopped down by Circleville. Here I am, stranded down by Circleville, and I thought, "What can I do to fix this car?" So I thought, "Well, maybe there's a screwdriver down in the glove compartment." So I opened up the glove compartment and in the glove compartment there were at least - AT LEAST - 1,000 horned toads! The kids had taken them and put all of them in the glove compartment. And then they were crawling out and jumping out. My boys said, "They won't hurt ya! They won't hurt ya!" I think they heard words they have never heard before or since. That was a terrible time. Then a mechanic came and I think it was a dead battery or something. Something that wasn't very serious anyway, and I finally got home. But it was a terrible experience."
Me: If you could give your grandkids & great-grandkids one piece of advice, what would it be?
Grandma Gwen: I would tell them to learn about the Gospel because it's the only thing that doesn't change. Everything else will change. Everything else in your life will change. You get married, and you think that's going to last forever, and that can change. You think you're never going to have a boyfriend, and that can change. Everything in your life can change except the Gospel. And one of my favorite sayings is, "If you want to hear God laugh, tell Him what you've got planned for your life."
